Summary of the project:
Many different organizations support sustainability and environmental ideas in sports, even it becomes complicated to name the main principles for sustainable growth. Besides, the new approach of Circular Economy (CE) is coming in, where the central concept is keep products and materials in use and regenerate natural systems, seeking resource sufficiency instead of material efficiency as a primary outcome. Usually, approaches and technologies used in sport industry adopt a strategy based on production and sale of products or service within linear value-chain logic, which provides limited support in addressing nowadays sustainability and carbon emission challenges. This arises several barriers which prevent CE systems and strategies from performing effectively and efforts are focused more on dealing with consequences than preventive approaches.
Consequently, there is a recognized need from European Member States to exchange views and start raise the importance of circularity and in particular Circular Designs (CD) strategies in sport and to it related sectors not only at the national level, but by using bottom-up approach merge local sport organizations and start using practical actions and programs towards a resilient and sustainable sport growth. Most local and regional sports organizations that would like to seek a transition to the CE model could adopt CD as a tool, yet initially they do not know that such practices exist and/or if anyone has heard of it, they do not know how to apply it.
Thus, the intention of the project is through the networking, identification and sharing of good practices to create the foundation of the Local and regional sport club organisations CD advisory scheme and to disclose a theoretical framework in CD strategy development in addition preparation of the practical “hands-on” implementation toolkit for local and regional sport organizations which would enable environmental and social behavioural changes of the sport the industry.
